Friday…July 24th….A Few Thoughts for Today….

This is what life should look like….

I was a teacher at a vocational program…in San Francisco…one of the projects I’d have my students do was…describe  what they wanted there lives to look like….smell like…taste like…what music would their life sound like…it was surprising to see that the majority of students could not…complete the project…not due to the level of difficulty…more because they lacked the imagination to make something…something else….I’d give them my example…my life  looked like a speckled purple…pink and white orchid….smelled like freesia and fresh pine….tasted like Creme Brule from Cliff House…and sounded like Gato Barbieri ….”Straight into the Sunrise….although that definition of my life was for that moment only…it changed daily…sometimes on the hour…sometimes more frequently…

when I was a small child I wanted to grow up and either be …a helicopter…or a pine tree…..my brother said I couldn’t be either one….I responded that mom and dad said I could be anything I wanted….there began this making something into something else….it has stayed with me my entire life…I have been a literal person most of my life…..and feeling has been a project…that let’s say is something I work with regularly…so the issue of feeling against the back drop of literal interpretation is like Zorro….with out the mask…..intellectualizing…conceptualizing….they all sound just perfect….but I think today…I’d rather be in the woods with my Ponderosa Pine orange bark…jacket….watching the helicopters  circle above….

  1. my life today would look like an appalachian woods after the rain, sound like a rambling creek with tiny birds singing, and taste like fresh brewed coffee on a cold winter day.
Maybe some fresh raspberries on top….

  2. I would have trouble only because it would have to be several of each! The food would be a buffet table and the music? Much like what’s in my iPod…but what a wonderful exercise! I shall have to ponder it more and maybe try to narrow it down some.
