First Day of the Month, Last Day of the Month

cause I dont worry

“I’m not out to convince anybody of anything.”

I’ve not revisited the “First of the Month”…honestly in a few months maybe even….well…over a year…in order for the first of the month to have some value…there must be a connection to the end of the previous month…don’t ask me why…but it just seems a sort of…”foot bone’s connected to the ankle bone”…sort of progression… I have to say in all honesty…I prefer writing about what I learned in the month just finished rather than…what I think I’m going to learn in the month…ahead…seems so cryptic…

well here is the…where I’ve been…in other words the gripping thoughts and the skinny for June 2013…the month that has led me to this morning of writing about…my expectations if you will…for July…

10 Things I learned in June:

  1. There are a lot of people who buy a lot of pretty pointless…stuff…
  2. Bee stings are much different from what I expected…
  3. There is always something that has to happen before that something that really matters happens…
  4. I’m completely and utterly done with thinking that #3 is true and has to occur…
  5. Writing is much more liberating than I remember…
  6. Israeli food is the same as Middle Eastern food..so I understand the conflict even less…
  7. At art shows…people generally ask the same…4 questions…and tell me the same…3 storie… about themselves…
  8. Success for me is finding someone who is equally as excited about selling my stuff as I am excited about making it…
  9. At 56 I don’t need/want excuses…
  10. Sometimes it is just easier to nod than to say anything….maybe utter a couple of “hmm’s” …but remain for the most part…quiet

So there you have it…June in a nutshell!

July is going to have to wait….I have 30 more days to see what transpires…

see you then…

578. December 1st…The last day of the month…became the first day of the month…today…

“If you hold a cat by the tail you learn things you cannot learn any other way.” – Mark Twain

so yesterday…November 30th…became today…December 1st….quickly…faster than I realized….

I don’t know if it is time that is making the difference or being more aware of the slower things these days…that seem to fill the space…but what ever it is…I am enjoying the journey…

November was a great month…and yes like every other month I learned/relearned a great deal more than I am able to write…

  1. “The important things are not things”
  2. Owning/Driving a VW Westfalia is like being in a club of people I don’t know at all….but waving to them when I see them…
  3. I don’t trust short bald men with whiny voices…who are trying to sell me something…
  4. everything narrows down more as it makes greater sense…
  5. I like hats…more than I ever thought I would…
  6. when it is too much about me and too much about you…it is far too much…
  7. really knowing when and why to give up or start something is as important as giving up…or starting…something…
  8. people can only be an exception…for a little while longer than they really are….
  9. I’ve always been  a student…
  10. repetition alters the process…greater than not…

Thanks November for a wonderful month of great things…that weren’t things at all….see you next year…

299. May 1st…First day of May…it’s “Mother Goose Day…and a new holiday…I made up…. “Not Going to Take it so Seriously Day”….

First Day of the Month

“Hardwired” 2009

“I like trees because they seem more resigned to the way they have to live than other things do” – Willa Cather

Today is “Mother Goose” day…..”the original Mother Goose was a real person who lived in Boston in the 1660s. She was reportedly the second wife of Isaac Goose (alternatively named Vergoose or Vertigoose), who brought to the marriage six children of her own to add to Isaac’s ten. After Isaac died, Elizabeth went to live with her eldest daughter, who had married Thomas Fleet, a publisher who lived on Pudding Lane (now Devonshire Street). According to Early, “Mother Goose” used to sing songs and ditties to her grandchildren all day, and other children swarmed to hear them. Finally, her son-in-law gathered her jingles together and printed them.”

This is one of my favorites….

Simple Simon met a pieman going to the fair;
Said Simple Simon to the pieman “Let me taste your ware”
Said the pieman to Simple Simon “Show me first your penny”
Said Simple Simon to the pieman “Sir, I have not any!”

Simple Simon went a-fishing for to catch a whale;
All the water he had got was in his mother’s pail.
Simple Simon went to look if plums grew on a thistle;
He pricked his fingers very much which made poor Simon whistle.
He went for water in a sieve but soon it all fell through;
And now poor Simple Simon bids you all “Adieu”

I’ve decided I’m not taking it all so seriously today and I think this will be my new tradition every May 1st….not only is it Mother Goose day…but for me May 1st marks…”Not Going to Take it so Seriously Day”…..I don’t have any plans or a picnic scheduled…there is nothing going on in a  park nearby…nobody really knows about this holiday…except me and the people who read this blog…so it fundamentally is a pretty obscure holiday…unless we develop some viral marketing plan…but that just sounds so serious….you know…so for those of you who want to participate….in…”Not Going to Take it so Seriously Day”….there’s really not a great deal going on this year…next year will be different…we have a whole year to plan….seriously…I didn’t mean to use that word……….don’t take it so seriously today…okay……..

272. April 1st…happy April Fool’s Day…..all of you April Fools…..

First Day of the Month

“What Life Should Be” 2010

“The artist is a receptacle for the emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web” – Pablo Picasso

I began thinking last night about the post for yesterday… “Last Day of the Month”…so living in Taoist fashion I could no longer bear not having the…. “First Day of the Month”…I started thinking about reflection….what has happened and again reverted to the idea that if I am willing to reflect on what has transpired…I should also think of what could be for the month ahead…believe me I don’t have the bag of bones or an endless supply of chicken innards or anything near as sophisticated to predict what might take place…but I do consult the collaged “Magic 8 Ball”…my friend Mars gave me….just in the event of a stalemate….and when Rock Paper Scissors has failed me…..

I realize whole heartedly that the month has little to do with what I do…and accomplish…yet there is something to say for the influence of the month….I’m certain…the energetics contribute to the overall….I’ve not really thought about my goals for the month….per say…and don’t have a list…of 1-10…like the “Last day of the Month”….so maybe format is key here….because the nature of the future is somewhat unpredictable…the format should somehow be associated with the unpredictable…thus giving me the option to… “Take Back” anything I want during the month….just as a bit of leverage to show I’m not lazy…or don’t do what I say I’m going to do…this way everything is not carved in stone and…I’m not attempting …sword swallowing just because I said I wanted to try it…….

here’s how I’ll begin:

I’d like to see these happen in the next 30 days:

read a few books……walk and exercise……make  quiet time…….watch 3 movies I’ve really wanted to watch……make some hot currey…….have  a few espressos…eat  spinich…..spend  time outside…….paint ……step out of my jewelry box thinking……..write…….take pictures…….5 more galleries…..appreciate the meaning……give…….take some days a little slower…..speed up on other days…….receive……..expand my thinking…….open my heart……sit on the front porch and have a coffee in the morning…..start on the backyard……cook some halibut…..get my belt to go one hole smaller…..keep making the small successes that make the big ones…..smile and laugh a lot…….sketch outside……be happy and content…..

I’ll let you know………how it all turns out…..
