2 New Elements have been added to the  Periodic Table…their proposed names are…flerovium (atomic symbol Fl) and livermorium (atomic symbol Lv)…are up for debate…the interesting thing about both of these elements is each is created in a lab…not naturally occurring…

so a couple of  questions arise here on the high desert at 6:04 am…if it can be made is it an element or an invention? and secondly what does “New” really mean?….

that brings me to the top ten “New” species discovered in 2011…and of the 10…my favorite is the…Louisiana Pancake Batfish only because I like the name much more than the other 9 and “Pancake Batfish has a rather superhero sound to it….nevertheless….what is thought to be new may not necessarily be new…and chances are…it is not…

the highlight of both of my cat’s day is a spoonful of wet food in their bowl each and every morning…outside of that…their excitement level remains pretty flat line…boring and really nothing new happens for the most part…of course with the exception of a noise that may sound new yet is passe in a matter of seconds…becomes old business and falls into the memory category…if that…and they go on about their day in complete oblivion to the new elements…species…technology…blah…blah…blah…

I am still very much amazed at new discoveries…and simple ones at that…latest…folders for my I Phone…my buddy showed me that process and I’m downloading apps just to file them away…

I awakened this morning at 4:19…thinking of everything there is to think about…I must admit at the top of my list was the concept and thinking about “New”…the entire notion that…was…the  “New World”… New… certainly New York was not the Newest version of York…and did New Math spring from the loins of…Old Math…and I get… “New Born”…vs…Old Born given there is an Old Born

New oozes the idea that change has occurred…the old version was somehow lacking while the update has a few more bells and whistles…maybe a different look but it’s still basically the same…perhaps a bit more difficult to look at from the big picture…and maybe the changes that made it easier…more user friendly…more efficient….effective…prettier…smaller…sleeker…more colorful…available…have also made the essence less of the essence…

who knows….maybe subjecting the Louisiana Pancake Batfish to just the right amount of flerovium  and livermorium might very well produce a new Louisiana Pancake Batfish species….

…”that was followed by the days when the gardenias….pushed there fragrance through my windows…quiet in the dark before the sun…in a…silk glove sort of way…the thick fleshy petal….burned….black brown edges….by the end of the day…in that glass white bowl…I’d put them in“….

there is that great expanse between an idea…and a decision on an idea….an idea seems like swirling water…something that could change direction…where as a decision seems like it becomes attached..sort of stuck to whatever we are…becoming a part of us…and maybe a decision is liberation in some way…freedom from…

I walk every day…yet I don’t walk the same route each day…I always end up where I began…see all of the same things I see everyday…but from a different angle…sure there are only so many angles to see one thing from before a new level of creativity has to take over…I’ve noticed…the more I walk…the more my ideas become like moths at the porch light…while my thoughts about those ideas are much more lucid…an easier pathway …Friedrich Nietzsche said : “All truly great thoughts are conceived by walking.”…

“If anything is possible, what would you love your life to look like in 2 years?”…I was asked that question a few years ago at the beginning of the end of a long…seemingly eternal nightmare…my response was much different then than it is today…and for numerous reasons…I equate some of the difference to left in front of right thinking and doing…but like anything it has taken practice….and the practice of walking both literally and figuratively…self-propulsion…with some designated coordinates in mind…with a return plan…to some place close to the original…

I think this is what really it should look like…this pair of earrings I made yesterday from a discarded “Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers” underground comic book I found and some acrylic disc…

here are a few other pair of earrings I built over the weekend…these came from a piece of discarded sheet music I found by Georg Philipp Telemann…”Six Sonatas in Cannon Form”…for Two Recorders…

and of course some road maps…

when I was a child…I had two large gardenia bushes outside of my windows…I would sometimes sit up all night going from window to window…smelling the intoxicating fragrance from the flowers…I often would take a flower and put it in a bowl filled with water by my bed…

I have received a number of requests for jewelry for people’s sweethearts this Valentines day…I am surprised at the 4 choices that are leading the field…I’d like your opinion…Please take a look at the 4 winners and see which one you’d like to give to or get from your sweetheart:

A. Ruby Red Bowling Ball Earrings

B. Chop Stick earrings

C. Chinese Restaurant Plate Earrings

D. “Fordite” Auto Mobile Paint Pendant

Thanks for your opinion….

I’ve been a jewelry designer for close to 30 years…and in that time…my work has changed dramatically since I first started making jewelry…originally I worked in manufacturing…developing prototypes that went to sales reps who in turn showed them to the retailers..department stores and other manufacturers for inclusion into their giant stock of sales inventory…we did well…my worked ended up in major department stores in the US…Asia…and Europe…we were included in catalogs…women’s magazines…wardrobe for some major television shows…celebrities bought my work…it was all to say the least overwhelming if not a little overbearing…even now I run into people wearing a pair of my older earrings and I have to laugh…because I know the story behind them….

with some time…wisdom and a true desire to build jewelry that I enjoyed designing and making…I landed where I am today…I have a very different philosophy about building jewelry…I really like the combinations of raw and refined…melded together…that is what has drawn me so to reclaimed/recycled jewelry…I decided three years ago to buy  as little as possible of “New” material for jewelry as there is more than enough floating around out there that can be repurposed…and have another stab at the aesthetic….and more than anything…I’m enjoying the work and having fun making jewelry…
